What is the holiday spirit without a few snow flurries landing on the tip our noses? They add a glitter and brilliance that combined with the company of loved ones, make the magic of the season complete.
Sadly, snow is deaf to our pleas, and often we do what we can to mimic its magical presence. For many of this, this conjures memories of snipping out paper snowflakes with out families and affixing them to our windows. In this spirit, we present Studio Luka’s holiday wall stickers.
Ideal for windows, walls, and any other surface you can dream of, these decals have got the snow beat with their vast array of colors. And fun though it may have been to craft a flake of our own, these surpass even the craftiest among us with their delicate and playful designs.
They are a steal at $44.00 for a package containing five full decal sets. Be sure to check out Studio Luka’s website to see what else they’ve got cooking for the season.

And one especially for today!!!

Happy Halloween Everyone!!

When I see home makeovers on cable TV or in magazines, the designer’s choices for change always seem so natural and sensible that I think, “Why, of course!” Yet, when tasked with my own interior design projects the starting point doesn’t seem so obvious. Where do you start with a blank slate? In the living room: should I replace the one sofa and two chairs with two small sofas? Will more shelving make the room look more cluttered or cleaner?
Enter: free software design tools!
Several companies offer free (yes, free!), easily downloadable programs for charting out and playing with ideas. Here are few tools that we recommend:
- IKEA.com’s “Home Planner” has separate plans for each room. After customizing the measurements to your home, you can drag and drop your choice of IKEA furniture and appliances, then view and print the plans in 3-D, just like an architect.
- BoConcept.com’s “Furnish” program allows you to design your own piece of furniture by choosing from a variety of colors, fronts, armrests, materials, leg designs and tabletops. You can then enter the dimensions of your room to determine the perfect arrangement for your customized piece.
- http://sweethome3d.sourceforge.net/ offers a truly unique service in that “Sweet Home 3D” can be used to re-imagine the design you already have — mainly to reconfigure furniture (the program has over 75 furniture models to choose from). This is a refreshingly simple, user-friendly program designed for the novice.
- Last but not least is http://www.designmyroom.com by Metropolitan Home Magazine
Enjoy!

Abigail Simpson resents the bulky use-oriented history that her passion, ceramics, has accrued. Simpson’s pieces are a step beyond what we know when it comes to traditional clay works. Simpson hopes to move past the typical descriptions of a vessel as a noun of usage. For her, much of the art is the architecture behind the design itself. This is all made crystal clear upon viewing her pieces. Mostly oversized, with angles that bespeak skyscrapers or human beings themselves, these are not pretty pots and jugs to fill with flowers. In fact, the beauty of these pieces would be detracted by doing just that.
Simpson’s most recent work, designed for Pucci, takes its inspiration from Balenciaga. the collection consists of 13 handmade one-off vessels made from Stoneware, glazed in colors as varied as graphite, chocolate, or bronze. Any piece would make a palatable addition to you or your client’s home space.

The ChicTip of the day: Check out AnneKyyroQuinn.com and buy some pillows, or “cushions” as the Brits call them, for your sofa.
To purchase any one of British textile designer Anne Kyyro Quinn’s products is to bring high fashion to your home. Just as a couture designer uses seductive shapes and luxurious materials, Quinn brings movement and texture to something as simple as a pillow by shaping, cutting, and rearranging fabric (mostly wool, felt appliqué, linen and cotton). Essentially, she adds another layer of three-dimensionality to furniture and accessories. Sounds more interesting than relying on prints for patterning, doesn’t it?

David Weeks, the interior designer whose website lists his home décor products, furniture, and other items, really has struck a chord with his lighting collection, now available.
Escaping from the utilitarian game most designers play when approaching light design – something akin to reinventing the wheel – Weeks puts the emphasis on his design elsewhere. Weeks relishes melding balance with movement. He takes organic shapes and structures and in a process he calls, “formal reduction”, creates a veritable skeleton of light, striking in its beauty.
