This talented designer from Mexico stands out from the crowd. We look at dozens of artists weekly, and very few make the impression that Marcos has. Designing lighting fixtures and other pieces of furniture it was his lighting display that really struck our fancy. His light cubes, available in a wood or aluminum finish, come in sets of three and depending on how they are place cast hip geometric patterns on your walls. His furniture is a perfect compliment to such irreverent lighting, like his table cube which also plays with the idea of space and line with ample storage for books beneath.

Where oh where do our hotel travels take us this time? Amsterdam, and the Hotel Lute Suites!, Lute Suites is the brainchild of Dutch designer Marcel Wanders and local chef Peter Lute. They’ve taken a row of 8 18th century homes and turned them into a modern wonder – a hotel with no lobby, each room has its own private entryway so it’s more personal apartment than cold hotel. Unified but distinct, is a thought that crosses the mind on viewing it. One space may be warm and open, cozy and comfortable, while another appeals to a more gothic sensibility. This is one hotel that promises something for everyone, and actually follows it through.

Usually when it comes to furnishings, you can feel a little stifled. Sure, the best boutiques in town and on the web have some great offerings, but your choices feel limited – everything starts to look the same. Not the case with Montauk Sofa. From structured angled looks to demure and cozy, they have something to suit just about every need. I myself am mad for throw pillows, done right, they can really tie a look together. Keeping this is mind their ‘Paul’ sofa is a veritable dream come true for yours truly. Swimming in cushions, it suits my taste while maintaining its contemporary soul.
