Summer Colors

We have asked Color Specialist, Lesley David from paintyourspace.com for best color choices for summertime and here is what she told us.

“..One of my favorite color palettes to work with is citrus colors for summertime. There is just something about a summer’s day that brings citrus colors to my mind as I look outside. The sun shines down on my lime green coleus plant and reminds me of how great lime green, lemon yellow, and orange create a fun palette.

Citrus colors explode a fresh, funky look to any room inside or even an outside porch. Some favorite citrus paint colors to use are Chic lime 396, limon 334, and citrus blossom 123 from Benjamin Moore Classic Colors.

A great way to finish off a nice citrus wall color is with beautiful coordinating fabrics. Designers Guild is one of my favorite companies that takes bold, bright colors and partners them with elegance. The room with the citrus colors shows the funky style that lights up a room.

I like to pair my citrus palette with white to make the colors really pop! An easy to do a chic and contemporary look that is great for the summer season. Fabrics can bring in the sunshine while the walls remain crisp and white. Here are some fabrics that are offered through Designers Guild that would light up any room…”

Thank you Lesley for your tips!

Art & Cement Tiles

What better way to start the day than with a trip to South of France? Art & Cement takes us across the world and into one rife with spices and rich with color. The tradition of South of France cement tiles between 1850- 1950 were considered as the new trend in architecture, with samples found throughout the street . At Art & Cement designers, they have taken a step further, modernizing this tantalizing tradition, taking inspiration from the exuberant world around them every day – from trees, to fabric, to the birds flying overheard – nothing is off limits when it comes to designing their unique tiles.

Gessi – Modern Showerheads

One of the greatest pleasures of my life is ending a long day – or beginning one – under a truly powerful shower. It is very rare that one finds a shower head fixture that not only looks good, but feels great – Gessi covers both bases and takes it a bit further. It doesn’t just look and feel great, it looks and feels sensational. With their sculptural look and the torrential downpour they provide, you’ll be perpetually amazed that something that looks as fabulous as a piece of modern art, can also leave your entire body feeling refreshed and reinvigorated.

Modern Wicker Daybeds Have Truly Come a Long Way

The evolution of modern outdoor wicker daybeds, both in terms of form and function, expands over roughly the last three thousand years. Some of the earliest recorded uses of outdoor daybeds were from the Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs and Queens who would take shelter from the sweltering desert heat by relaxing in the shade on a beautiful reed bed frame with plenty of soft pillows and fabrics. Indeed, outdoor daybeds were the most lavish of luxuries, used almost solely by the most affluent members of society. This trend continued through time and civilizations, including the great Roman and Persian Empires. Still, however, the use of outdoor daybeds was exclusive to the wealthy upper class.
In Victorian England, aristocratic women often used daybeds as “fainting beds” where they could recover from the pressures of walking about, in public, on hot days, in a restrictive whale-bone corset. Rather than just a lazy bed to rest on outside, wicker daybeds took on a whole new life as crucial recuperative destinations for the women who had to sacrifice so much for beauty.

Modern outdoor furniture is no longer just for the affluent of society. Thanks to modern production methods and easy online shopping, outdoor daybeds have become more affordable than ever. You don’t have to be a Pharaoh to use one, nor do you need to be air-deprived to enjoy the comfort of luxurious modern daybeds.

What you do need, however, is a strong sense of sharing – when you have friends over, everyone is going to want to try out your wicker daybed! Patio furniture can transform any beautiful backyard into a rollicking and comfortable lounge area that is perfect for entertaining. The modern daybed has evolved into an all-inclusive, affordable, casual, and friendly piece of outdoor wicker furniturethat is sure to make every minute spent outside a joy.

The Gray Hotel Milan

Stairs that seem to float in mid-air? A fuchsia colored seat-swing suspended from the ceiling? No, it’s a not a circus. Even better – it’s a hotel, the truly one of a kind, Gray Hotel. If you’ve been looking for an excuse to take a trip to Milan – like you needed another reason to visit this fab city – this is your chance!  With only 21 rooms, The Gray Hotel designed by Florentine architect Guido Ciompi, prides itself on no two rooms being exactly the same. That gives you 20 more reasons to keep coming back to this swanky new establishment. I know I’m already on a plane to Milan in my mind, ciao bello!
