How does something old seem new again? By adding just enough of a contemporary twist that all who see it can’t help but delight in the suddenly-new find. It also helps if the something-old in question is something incredibly useful – and it just so happens that without light we can’t see, so there’s that too, I suppose! Ego Lights illuminating collection of hanging and standing light fixtures captures the imagination and the lets the eye play. Taking their shapes from a child’s imaginative view of nature, these bright white hanging fixtures remind one of the clouds and shells at the beach – don’t think they are all child’s play – it takes an adult design palate to appreciate everything they’ve got to offer.

Oh Etsy, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways – but really, poetry aside it’s pretty well established that when it comes to discovering new works of art before your friends and often at killer costs, Etsy.com is the place to be. Valentina Design is hardly an exception to the rule. With an emphasis on printmaking utilizing Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph Pens, these particular, meticulous designs will let your imagination run rampant. Be it an elephant spouting a posy, or an autumnal tree as you’ve only seen in your dreams, Valentina fuses realism with the world of our dreamscapes. With a soupcon of the old time feel of high school doodles in the margin, and at only $15.00 bucks a pop, I suggest you begin collecting this Miami based artist’s work now before some else beats you to it!

The Sushi Collection by Edward van Vliet for Moroso .
Edward van Vliet is a Dutch interior designer who started off as a fabric designer before moving into interior design and large-scale furnishing projects, including Derlon Hotel and NL Hotel in Amsterdam.
He worked with Patrizia Moroso on this collection. She describes her perception of the creativity of a designer she has known for years: “Edward has a very light, free and easy approach to designing, and he also has a talent for amalgamating very different elements. The contrast highlights their differences and, as in life, it becomes the most attractive and interesting side of things”.

It is not an uncommon thing to think baby furniture and immediately associate it with bright colors, cheesy prints, and felt textiles. Cambrass takes these conceptions and tosses them out the window in favor of functional, linear, modular, and modern furnishings that would be as at home in an art gallery as they would be in your own home. The blocky white stark feel of their mobile baby furnishings – all on wheels, may not intial be appealing, but on second inspection their functionality and pick and choose potential make them ideal. For the modern mommy who is loath to kick off her artistic leanings in favor of childproof everything, Cambrass is the way to go.

When it comes to the name of the game, sometimes simple is best and if that is the case, then Designer Carpets certainly wins on that score. With their vast array of designs by a vastly different stable of artists there is something for everyone at this charming site. Even if you don’t have immediate plans on redecorating or recarpeting, I think you’ll be surprised at what you may be inspired to accomplish after taking a look around. When it comes to picking a pattern, I can be pretty difficult to work with – a carpet after all is not totally different than a marriage – you are going to have to look at the same thing every day so you’d better darn well like it.
