Montreal is a city of culture and personality, whose French flavor leaves you feeling entranced and momentarily transported. Many boutique hotels have emerged in this tourist hot spots over the years, but few seem to fit into the landscape of the city itself. Le Petit Hotel is an exception. Opened in early July, this charming, hip, and yes – chic, hotel is a stylish refuge for travel-weary tourists, and natives alike. True to its name, this is a tiny hotel – just 24 rooms! – with a dream-team of a staff ready to guide you to the best boutiques and cafes in the neighborhood. History buff? Then you’re in luck as the hotel is located in the heart of the historic district – even the building itself shares in Montreal’s history, dating back to the 19th century. If you’re in Canada – or need a reason to go – be sure to check it out before it’s all booked up!

When it comes to putting the finishing touches of a newly designed home or workspace, many of us can become stymied by picking the appropriate art work. I know for me personally, unless my inspiration has come from a piece of art, I often have a very difficult time finding artwork that is cohesive and compliments my design to the fullest.
An easily overlooked option is using photography. Often ignored as being tacky – something on par with showing off your vacation pictures – in reality the right photograph can add a sense of drama or mood to any space. This technique is not something new. Top designers like ChicTip favorite Kelly Hoppen have been employing this tactic for years.
When it comes to picking photographs that are appropriate, the key is not to limit yourself. Be it one poignant black and white portrait or a wall of framed photographs depicting several still objects, the images and the number of them will have a tremendous impact on your space.
Aching to make your study a retreat for both body and soul? Why not employ landscapes in bright vivid hues. Don’t be afraid to go big and bold, and don’t be afraid to try your hand at taking some photographs yourself. Who knows, maybe in addition to creating a killer space, you’ll find a whole new way of expressing yourself.
