Halloween Decorating

One of the best things about the holidays, is redecorating! Halloween doesn’t have to mean cackling witches and tacky patchwork stuffed pumpkins. In fact, skull heads don’t have be “punk rock” or creepy- they can be the perfect touch to give your home the holiday spirit while sticking to your innate design sense. So start simple, don’t bust out the Christmas mugs quite yet, try showing your Halloween spirit by replacing some of your dishes with Etsy design skull mugs (which also double as baking mugs! perfect for spooky cupcakes), or a set of “bone appetit” skeletal plates- I want the ribcage plate!

If you want to go a little more in depth, Beware the Moon has skull wallpaper, in shades from gothic black to baby pink- see, skulls are girly! Small changes in your home like A+R’s skull monkey box made of porcelain, with a few black and gold candles- will show that you’re ready for Halloween! Now if only you could find the “perfect” costume…..

Lake Union Floating Home

This light and airy house is one of eight floating homes (read: really fancy houseboats) planned for a new dock on Seattle’s Lake Union. In an interesting twist on convention, the bedrooms and baths are located on the float level (the “ground” floor in a houseboat), while the kitchen and entertaining spaces are on the second floor. This allowed architects Vandeventer & Carlander to consolidate these public functions into a single room, making the best use of the available space and promoting more flexibility. Abundant windows and two terraces (one off the second floor, and one off the master bedroom) enable a delightful blurring of the boundaries between indoors and out.

The Addiva Sideboards

Orangized? No?….me either. If you’ve ever spent hours scanning the isles of stores looking for a functional shelving system, that doesn’t look like something you’d find in a 3rd grade classroom, or inside your pantry- then there’s a new solution for you, The Addiva Sideboard from LYX. If you can’t decide which one you like the best, (you’re both indecisive and unorganized…something I’d know nothing about, er?) they’re available in a number of sizes, materials and combinations and can be used both as side boards and drawers. By combining top/sides, fronts and “plus-characters” in different materials like hi-gloss paint, lacquer ebony and mirror polished metal, the possibilities are almost “infinite.” Storage systems don’t have to mean, plastic bins or metal cartons- you can organize your life, your papers, or your sock drawer without sacrificing style, and design.

Under The Spotlight: Dylan Gold

Dylan Gold, a graphic designer turned furniture creator, sees his furniture as his art and the hardwoods and reclaimed materials he chooses to work with his media.

“..My furniture pieces are intended to combine fine art and function, craftsmanship and creativity, and blur the line between focal point and background in a physical setting…”

Dylan Gold creates unique hand-crafted furniture with a twist — pieces that enhance the experience of your everyday life by challenging the mundane and conventional. His work is guided by three underlying principles: thought-provoking design, precision craftsmanship, and environmental awareness.
