This stunning home on the shores of Parsley Bay, in the Vaucluse area of Sydney, was designed by Aussie architects Tobias. Earth tones, natural materials and rectangular forms predominate gracefully in the design, which features lots of wide-open spaces flowing into one another. Bronze, steel, teak and thick slabs of concrete work elegantly together to make a surprisingly warm, inviting (if pointy) bayside retreat.

Followers of Amsterdam-based product and interior designer extraordinaire Marcel Wanders will be pleased as holiday punch to see his recently-launched range of holiday-cheery home accents at Target. The line features a combination of traditional-style and more contemporary tabletop and accent pieces in glass and porcelain, the star of the series being a range of candles shaped like tapers and candlesticks in one (a small porcelain base keeps them standing).

Though there’s a certain charm in clunky old-fashioned cast-iron radiators, especially when the mold had lots of Victorian swirls and other details, it’s always nice to see innovations in radiator design. After all, there’s usually at least one in every important room–so they might as well look nice, right? To this end, Italian manufacturers Caleido recently introduced Metacrilato, a line of contemporary radiators featuring bold graphics and bright colors and made of an unusual combination of methacrylate plastic and metal. And the openings in the plastic plates make the perfect spot to hang, and warm, up your towel or bathrobe.

A pendant light is any light suspended from the ceiling–anything from an elaborate multi-lamp chandelier to a single naked bulb. But in decorating terms, it usually refers to a single bulb with some kind of shade, most often suspended over a dining table. Hanging a pendant light at the right height is essential, so here are some tips for how to figure it out.
The ideal height for a pendant over a table is between 28″ and 34″, according to wikihow.com. The exact height you want will depend on how it looks, which can be affected by the size of the fixture in proportion to the table, the size of the room, or other factors like the design of the fixture itself.
You don’t want the light to be too bright in diners’ eyes, or block people’s views of one another. So starting with these basic measurements as a guideline, it’s a great idea to have someone sit at the table with the light on, have another person raise and lower the light, and stand back yourself to see where it looks just right.

…”My painting process is rooted in abstract expressionism and the New York School. When I am working, I am in the moment. It is purely an intuitive process.
The practice continues to grow and change as I do. The ovals came into the work in the mid-nineties; they are just a point of departure. My newer work is large, at times monolithic, abstract, and physically demanding to make.”..(Artist Jeff Lewis)
