One of the coziest home decor trends to emerge over the last few years is the alcohol-fueled fireplace. Now you can have a fire to cuddle up by without the soot, smoke–or even a chimney, for that matter. The fireplaces are available in styles and sizes ranging from every kind of traditional to every kind of modern and contemporary, but one of the most prominent contributors is award-winning German firm Conmoto. One of their best designs, the reconfigurable Balance model, combines a fireplace and storage for logs. Another good one is an entirely freestanding, portable unit for use literally anywhere you want. It’s like a fireplace in a suitcase, ready to go. See more on their website.

As if Prague wasn’t already dreamy enough the opening of the new hotel Buddha-Bar is adding an element of mod-Orientalism and contributing to the bustling nightlife that vibrates through the streets surrounding it. The hotel, not far from the Charles Bridge and historic landmarks in town was conceptualized by the famed nightclub group and franchise and they have turned their vision into thirty-nine rooms of pure luxury. Each room boasts massive tubs, jacuzzi’s and décor that is both Zen and stylish. Expect to see several Buddha’s decorating the alcoves and walls, and just as many globe-trotting, glitzy clientele roaming the lobby of Buddha Bar. The interior is both, lush, trendy and mod. Buddha Bar has added a splash of luxury and swank that won’t disappoint travelers, or locals. Looks like I’ll be booking my next trip to Prague, who’s comin’ with?!

When I picture my “dream closet” I almost instantly have flashes of scenes from Clueless when Cher opens up to a Clothes Horse dream- rows of vibrant fabrics, materials and most importantly SPACE, conducive for someone with a serious shopping addiction. Sigh, heaven. Spazzi has a created a series of door closets that from the front look like an opening into another room, or realm if you will. The long panels create an illusion of open, long spaces from floor to ceiling. With the variety of designs and colors, Spazzi’s closets lend to an endless list of functionality and style. The closets are tucked away so that they look more like a style addition to a room, than a place to store your things. You can add pops of color, or a facade of a flower, a filmstrip, etc. to fit the purpose and vision of a room. Spazzi has created a dream closet AND a chic way of mixing both efficient organization and design.

The 6,800 square foot visual effect post-production facility is located within a generic office building in downtown Santa Monica,CA. The company is highly regarded for its work in the field of color manipulation in films. With this in mind, the project explores the notion of light as it relates to color. The forms and patterns developed are produced using studies of light. Light is analyzed and modeled three dimensionally. Frames of animation are chosen and layered to organize spatial qualities and movement. An organic, sinuous spine weaves its way through the suite. The result is unusual and capturing your imagination.

Jeff Babienko at Babienko Architects have built their designs around a philosophy of “creative intuition that comes from experience and inspiration…..balanced with a rational understanding of the tectonics of construction….” Clearly with a philosophy like that there’s a depth and understanding to design and elements of building a beautiful home that run throughout their work. The Park Side Residence if one of their recent designs and it reflects their signature style and then some. The owner desired a need to capture natural light, so they relocated the kitchen into the center of the condo- providing not only the clients needs, but also taking advantage of a tremendous view. The kitchen merged the lines between public and private, creating a warm space, good for entertaining. The colors and materials enhance the crisp modern design and unify the spaces from one room to the next. They did a fabulous job of creating a spatial environment that maintains a warmth desired by so many home owners. The views of Stanley Park and English Bay sure don’t hurt either!
