One of the coolest things I’ve seen done with wood in a long time is undoubtedly the wood design by LUMINOSO. Luminoso is a specially developed wood composite panel, in which thin wooden layers are firmly glued together. Fibre optical waveguides are embedded between the individual wooden layers, which conduct the light. The use of light on various woods like black cherry, oak, black walnut, maple, etc. creates a warm, rich glow to a room- as well as a unique element of natural color.

As a designer first, and a writer second, I get a large volume of mail and catalogs each month, much of which I need to review professionally but do not consider suitable for my personal passion of contemporary and modern design. Every now and then, however, something catches my eye – as is the case with a couple of new additions to Rejuvenation’s Mid-Century Modern Collection for 2010.

The Little Rock is a sculptural chair that reduces the traditional notion of the rocking chair to its essential elements. The low profile makes it playful and inviting while its almost seamless cover, refined lines and balanced proportion allow it to fit into any setting.
Solid cast foam gives the chair it’s gentle curves and exceptional comfort while a laminated curved plywood base provides structure and smooth rocking action. The plywood is inset from all edges, keeping the entire chair soft, even at the corners.

There is a great article in the New York Times today, by Pilar Viladis, that I wanted to bring to the attention of those who otherwise may miss it, which charts the life, death and resurrection of the Burden House in Maine. Designed by Wallace K. Harrison, of Rockefeller Center and MoMA fame, and artist Isamu Noguchi, it was the vacation home of William A.M. Burden.

When I’m decorating my home I like the décor to reflect a part of my sensible, comfortable personality as well as the part of me that is dreamy and full of wanderlust. Often, this reflects in the artwork in my home- collected from travels, or where I desire to take my next journey. Now this idea has been taken to a whole new level, thanks to Moovepaper.com. Moovepaper has designed an innovative new wallpaper that is magnetic, removable and repositionable. Did someone say, extremely easy to use? Yes.
