The hostel options are really improving in Madrid these days. Hopefully this new clean, crisp and very modern template for hostel design will take off all over Europe or even around the world. Although I never had the opportunity myself to back pack around Europe, one of my dear friends has backpacked through Europe and almost around the entire world a this point. I have heard many stories of the deplorable accommodations at hostels where she has stayed. Everything from complete lack of cleanliness to stolen items and beyond (I will not share them here). If U Hostel had existed when she began her journey, it surely would have been a slice of heaven when compared to others. It is actually noteworthy contemporary design and I had never imagined myself saying like that about a hostel until I saw this one.
We all know that hostels are a fabulously economic places to stay, but you rarely see any pictures advertising the individual rooms within the hostel. U Hostel has turned the table and provided an impressively clean and contemporary design that is well worth advertising. They have traditional dormitory style sleeping rooms with shared bathrooms as well as private rooms with en suite bathrooms for very economical prices. The minimalist designs are meant to cater to those in their late teens and 20′s so they are very hip and cool with wooden floors, white walls and splashes of bright color. U Hostel also went above and beyond what I have ever heard of before by including dining options, free wifi, bike rental and even a cinema within the complex. That is the short list, there are many other perks of staying at this place. Air conditioning, a roof top bar, launderette, communal computers, and 24 hour reception, are we sure we are talking about a hostel? Just the feeling of added security alone makes a huge difference.
The rooms are well appointed and have lockers for the safe storage of personal items. There are common areas for socializing with others staying at the hostel as well. I have never heard of so many amenities being offered at a hostel before. U Hostel also has a prime location close to centers of transportation, cultural landmarks and nightlife. Well, if you know anyone out there who plans on doing some backpacking and will be in the Madrid area, make sure you pass this information along. In the backpacking world I am familiar with, this place is more similar to a palace then a hostel.
