“The mind is a busy place.” This is according to modern artist and painter Tom Hlas. He creates modern art by working out his thoughts. If contemporary art is an outward physical expression, for him the process of creating one is usually turning inward, self-questioning and internalizing with a goal for clarity and meaning to the things the mind creates.
Tom Hlas is a contemporary artist specializing in abstract painting using acrylics as medium. Any onlooker will view his abstract works and be able to draw inspiration from it afterwards. He created his masterpieces through breaking beyond the physical boundaries and enjoyment instead of just relying on ones thoughts and feelings as he creates modern painting.
He was born near a rural town of Elberon, Iowa in 1954 where he grew up along with his siblings. He then moved to Washington, DC in order to do postgraduate work then move again to Miami, Florida. Currently, he lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
All the different educational experience from Bachelor degree in Vocal Music and postgraduate studies in philosophy and theology to his OJT training in diverse fields such as graphic design, marketing and art reproduction world have graced his work as a modern painter.
He knows how to combine different elements which were drawn out from his distinct experience and psychology. Through this, he has created a beautiful art which is a combination of elements working maintaining the veracity of the original. Each amazing art is a stand-alone piece yet they are all interconnected in some ways and for the most part – dynamic.
Red Alchemy
This modern painting is created on acrylic and graphite on canvas. It shows splashes of red within the stunning contrast of black, grey and white which will create a personal message to anyone looking at it. As a contemporary painter, he sees this as one of his treasures which all of us often find hard to get rid of when it is time.
Blue Expanse
This is an amazing art created on a 48 x 36 inches canvas. It speaks about the endless span of blue in the horizon. The wonderful abstraction creates a meaning and allows one to draw inspiration from it.
