When it comes to your home, picking your color scheme is a crucial step. In fact it is so crucial that many people – even old pros – can find the process incredibly daunting. Here are a few tips to get those creative juices flowing. 

Even though you’re working on the indoors, don’t neglect the outdoors! A brisk walk outside not only can you get your blood flowing and eliminate feelings of sluggishness, but being outside you’ll notice patterns and colors within the natural world which can be very inspiring.

While you may simply think of fashion magazines as a way to distract yourself, use those magazines to inform your design. What looks and colors are the designers playing with on this season’s runway? Designers make bold brash choices – let their bravery inform the colors you dare to pick!

As we’ve said before, sometimes just evaluating pieces you already have can get you started in the right direction. Have you selected wallpaper? New fabric? What was appealing about these pieces and can it translate into a viable option for a new color scheme?

Search Design Magazines, clip out rooms that speak to you and save them in a special file. Go a step further and try to look at the world around you the same way you study these design magazines. Before long you’ll be finding inspiration in everything around you, and pretty soon your only color scheme problem will be having more than you know what to do with!
