Although it is usually the smallest room in the house, designed creatively the bathroom could be its showcase. The right touch of style and décor supplemented with a bit of risk taking can turn even the most boring and tiny bathrooms into awe inspiring gems. So let’s get started with ChicTip’s design tips for the bathroom.
When it comes to beginning your design – think feeling. What do you want whoever enters this room to feel upon walking in? Do you want them to feel relaxed, amused, entertained, or maybe a bit turned on? The bathroom is a place for experimentation and a chance to break away from the overall design of the house. The possibilities are yours to explore.
When it comes to bathroom walls I like to go a little crazy. It’s not every room in your house that can pull off funky tiling, gaudy wallpaper, or bold paint – use the opportunity to release your inner design diva!
Floors are the most forgiving aspect of any bathroom – you can get away with wood, ceramic, even vinyl’s acceptable when it comes to flooring, whereas that might not be the case when it comes to your living room – you see where we’re going with this? Your bathroom is the one space where it’s okay to say, ‘anything goes!’

Sinks tend to be the focal point of a bathroom, well that and the toilet itself. There are sinks to suit any design concept, made of virtually any material from metal to ceramics. If you’re a product addict, be sure to pick a sink with storage options beneath – because pretty is pretty much a pain when you have nowhere to put anything.
You might not think of a bathroom as a place where dramatic lighting is essential, but play with it and you’d be surprised how much you love it. To go for a quick and easy fix, achieve that dramatic look by using a recessed wall light on the bottom of the wall.

Bathrooms can also be about luxury, dreamscapes, and escape. Be sure to finish your design by adding luxurious details – thick Turkish towels, sumptuous bath and body gels, scented soaps, and candles. Once you’ve created a zany haven of your own, maybe you’ll find yourself needing less and less time off thanks to this little slice of escape right at home.
So go ahead, see if you can come up with a new theme for your bathroom. Remember ‘anything goes’. Don’t be surprised to find yourself with a ‘Gothic Den’ or a ‘Victorian Powder room’ as long as it let’s you escape in the middle of the day, it is ok.
