Wallpaper – Not Just For Walls!

As glib as it sounds, few products purchased to design and enliven your home have the versatility of wallpaper. Wallpaper, you say, but wallpaper’s so basic, how do you expect me to breathe new life into something so utilitarian? The ways are innumerable! If you’re an artist, incorporate it into your work as backdrop, to cover frames, to ‘dress’ figures – you name it, you do it.

Do you have a table in your house? Yes. I thought so. Buy a piece of glass and sandwich wallpaper between the table and the glass – a new an inexpensive way to make the piece pop – plus when you’re bored with one piece of paper, another is less expensive than a whole new table by far!

There are the obvious places – headboards, accent walls and backsplashes can all become remarkably invigorated and modernly quaint by employing the right piece of paper. Then there are the not-so-obvious place – Spice up your stairways with splashy prints, those kitchen chairs getting tired? Paper ahoy! A door is just a door – with the right paper choice it can become a portal into another world .

Be your tastes classic or modern, homey or Spartan, there’s a paper for it – and a new twist on an old favorite.

  1. Great interior design ideas of using wallpapers on different furniture! I could probably say that both wallpapers and picture frames have the tendency to beautify and increase the aesthetic value of things in your homes. But unlike pictures frames, you can pretty much stick your wallpapers everywhere, which is awesome! Keep your ideas coming!

  4. Do you happen to know where I can find a glass piece like the desktop surface in the first image? That is almost exactly what I want to do for my home office but I can not find a plain glass top. Actually I did see they sell them at ikea but not online or in any of the ikea stores in my area. I’d appreciate your help if you know. Thanks!

  5. Hi Ivy,

They used to sell them at Pier1. Another option is to get it cut in any Glazier store.
