So many architectural masterpieces have been coming out of Tel Aviv, Israel lately and the CH House by Domb Architects definitely falls into that category. This single-family modern dream home is actually a complete renovation with simple finishes of white plaster, stone, iron and glass dominating the residence. It was specially built for a couple and their extended family.
From the street view, the structure comes across as a perfect white box. Though from the rear, the roofline slopes at an angle, exuding a linear beauty, while offering something unexpected.
The home’s entrance is breathtaking, with wide timber planks meshing with a trickling water feature. Light is refracted in a unique matter here, while a double door of white and steel awaits.
While the architect stresses how the low-ceilings of the original dwelling had to be dealt with, you would absolutely not feel that they were limitations whatsoever. In fact, the first floor living areas are flowing, interconnected and rimmed in plentiful glazing which allows the outdoors to transfer inside on a whim. Smooth pale stone floors transition these modern spaces meticulously and bounce light gracefully across the interiors. An intimate library corner is adorned with books displayed within the custom built-in unit.
A neutral color palette rooted in clean white is what keeps these spaces ultimately fresh, as well as tranquil. Grey and cream are rich, especially when fused with the various wood-accented modern furnishings. Various contemporary artworks hang on walls, delivering the slightest strokes of bold color.
The kitchen is a streamlined gem, a flush white-on-white system contrasted with a block of dark-wood upper cabinetry featuring both closed cupboards and open shelving–love that mix! An adjoining pantry nook leads to the patio terrace.
The staircase sits in the core of the main living space and features pure glass railings allowing views to penetrate from any perspective. Upstairs, the private quarters follow the restrained palette, with more sliding glass doors opening to the second-level terraces, where the family and guests can enjoy tree-topped views. The master bath is exhilarating, with a wall of green stone mimicking nature, appearing as plant leaves. This organic dose of color is in perfect harmony with the spa-like space which features a sleek vanity and freestanding soaking tub.
The outdoor wood-deck terrace is adjacent to the gardens and lawn, a vast area replete with plush sofas for relaxation, as well as an alfresco kitchen, a particular request of the client.
The CH House is a modern dream home, an escape of sorts with extensive indoor and outdoor gathering spaces where a family can continue to grow and enjoy the simple pleasures in life.
