The Casey Key Guest House is a single family residential structure which is definitely a dream home for many. It is designed by TOTeMS Architecture which is located on a barrier island. It is situation on a mature oak hammock down the Sarasota Bay. The concept was inspired by the attributes of the live oaks and shaped according to prevailing coastal winds from the west.
It is indeed a modern home that took the design from the idea of a house within trees. It is actually just a small architecture which includes a single bedroom, living area with a great kitchen, bathroom design and loft. The interiors of the home have been organized accordingly to provide privacy to the owners between the house interior and the neighboring properties situated to the north.
The modern architecture offer magnificent views of the oak hammock to the south as well as west side and the inter-coastal waterway located to the east side. It features the curved glulam pine beams anchored on the elevated concrete slab at its very foundation as it continues to curve up and over the whole place.
The exterior and interior walls in between the glulam beams are clad with ship lap cypress. The house floor plans evolved into an architectural structure that evoked an organic feeling influenced primarily by its location.
Regardless of the location, the modern architects from TOTeMS Architecture have constructed this luxury home with a concept that the architecture should respect the land where it will stand. The form of the construction was carved into the desired shape by carefully considering all elements and components.
The covered deck ensures a relaxing experience in the afternoon as one enjoys the beautiful views. The entire structure is definitely remarkable and welcomes the inhabitants and visitors with contemporary style and comfortable aura which defines the essence of what modern living is.
The project site is approximately 600 feet wide and spans out between the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota Bay. The environment of the site is apparently subtropical thus the layout of the house is indeed inspirational.
Since the house is constructed in a highly regulated FEMA velocity zone, it requires elevated floor levels which are supported further on the pile foundations. The mini-steel file foundation system was especially designed and implemented to preserve the health of the oak hammock and avoid disturbing the root thus minimizing the sub grade impact to oak trees. This made sure that all the existing trees are preserved.

This has got to be my dream house. Plus, the location absolutely suits the design of the house (and vise versa). This has inspired me to work harder.☺

[...] This C-shaped house plan gets an A+ when it comes to design. This wonderful wood clad house designed by TOTeMS Architecture is right at home in these natural surroundings. This small guest house is essentially a treehouse design, which becomes evident once inside and you find yourself among the treetops, visible through the home’s many windows. Just outside the floor-to-ceiling glazed facade, an open-air balcony lets you step into the great outdoors and take in the view of water and nature. This curved roof house boasts an unusual shape both outside and in. And just like its exterior, this timber house has warm, woody interiors that will have your guests begging to extend their stay.
