Dream Home : Hunting Lodge Conversion by UXUS Design

The foyer of this Wilton, Connecticut lodge at first may seem to offer only a classic welcome in midnight blue painted walls with white crown molding. In a small alcove off the spindled white and wood staircase, a chaise lounge sits grandly waiting for guests. But, a glance upward will show a whimsical touch. A light fixture treatment that consists of a circle of Mooi’s Dear Ingo lamps in white creates an intriguing interior decoration on the ceiling.

Another touch of whimsy is added in UXUS’ design in the living space. Two pillars that are stacks of books flank the fireplace. The book theme continues with a large image of a Penguin brand book cover in a frame on the dining room’s back wall. Actual books appear on the coffee table.

No lodge seems complete without a stone fireplace in the living area and there is an elegant one here that starts at the pointed peak of the cathedral ceiling. Several feet in front of that, a white horizontal beam contrasts with the two colorful, vertical book stack pillars under it.  The living room has white walls and two matching dark sofas that face each other. A white built-in book shelf with rectangular open compartments of varying heights contains only a few accessories that are also white to keep a minimalistic feeling to the room.

A music area features a black piano with several framed black and white pictures on the wall behind it. The walls here have tree branch patterned wallpaper. Just beyond the piano, an otherwise neutral sitting area gets a shot of color from a bright red pedestal lounge chair with a matching footstool. Neutral seating, a rug and a coffee table surround the vivid chair.

The large, framed book cover image in the dining room also has a pop of bright orange-red. The rest of the eating space appears mainly white or neutral until the inner parts of the dining chairs are examined. Wonderfully hand-painted scenes of trees and forests adorn the seats and inside backrest parts of the chairs for a unique interior decoration.Rustic wood board floors painted white further accent the rustically wonderful dining room space. A large, white low shelf unit separates the dining room from the living area.

Here at ChicTip.com, we love how the spaces of a black painted wall in a bedroom show through between different sizes of wood planks that have been attached to the surface. This feature wall is behind a white canopy bed and a small oval mirror hangs in the center. The dresser and tables are also white for a fresh country feeling.

The office has tall black-framed windows that capture a treed view on all three sides of the room. The repeating color story of neutral seating, walls and rug with a pop of orange or red is continued here. A vividly painted wood ladder back chair is placed behind the desk.
