Dream Home: Lovelli Residence by Word of Mouth Architecture

The Lovelli Residence is a design that truly baffles me even at a glance. It is designed by WOM or Word of Mouth Architecture and can be found at Seminyak, Bali. It occupies 300-square meter area and as I’ve said it is a dream home that I would love to come home to. The modern architecture was created through the development of the client’s brief into a concept – a place that exudes elegance yet fun and unique. The owner of the house is an Italian socialite and jewelry designer – which was designed solely as a place of retreat and entertainment.

The modern home looks trendy but personally this could be an understatement. There are challenges that the modern architects of the firm faced during the creation of this masterpiece. The 300-square meter area has limited the design process and apart from this is the east orientation of the lot. Therefore, the solution created by WOM was to make full use of space. There is seamless interaction and transition of all spaces that are overlapping each other.

The dining area can become the lounge and it has a smooth transition towards the pool area hence one space can have double functions. Each of the bedrooms is designed in such a way that it could become a public domain as much as a private retreat – demonstrating the overlap of functions. Looking at it as a whole, it gave a sense of a much larger space conquering the limitation set by the space.

The master bedroom is located on the first level with 3 green terraces surrounding it inviting natural light to the area. This also enhanced the spatial effect making it larger than it seems. The bathroom design also demonstrated the overlapping of all spaces. Here, I notice that the visual contact between the spaces is maintained.

The great kitchen also has limited space but somehow the flow of spaces did not exhibit such limitation allowing it to demonstrate its authentic design.

Overall, the design and layout are inspirational that in my opinion created such a warm and cozy home maximizing its use of space. The choice of furniture is also excellent thereby complementing the design approach. Word of Mouth made use of the color of the furniture to create the fun aspect of the project instead of playing with the palette on the architecture itself. This is typical of WOM’s creations and I think it’s what made this residence special.
