The PC residence by Pb Elemental Architecture is a certified 5 Star Built-Green residence designed by an AIA award winning architect Pb Elemental. The 2850 sf multi-level residence includes a private legal 1 Bed+Den Accessory Dwelling Unit with its own full kitchen, laundry, 3⁄4 bath, living room and private outdoor patio on the lower level. The main residence features a 2 car garage with adjacent mud room, 3 bedrooms, 23⁄4 baths, office with double height ceilings and media room. The great room area features living, dining, kitchen with a 2 story translucent polycarbonate wall system extending up the 2nd floor master suite.
Polycarbonate Translucent Wall:
From dawn to dusk, the translucent walls glow with an abundance of natural light and change with the Seattle weather. The translucent wall system provides generous natural light that is 99.9% UV filtered and provides high thermal insulation. Residents can track the subtle movement of clouds or nearby trees as their moving shadows are replicated across the translucent canvas in the great room and master suite. At night, a high efficiency programmable LED lighting system built within the polycarbonate walls provide infinite colors and variable intensity to adapt to the residents’ moods or evening activities. From the exterior the PC Residence can glow like a warm amber lantern or like red hot nightclub. The multi-wall polycarbonate sheets are non-polluting, 100% recyclable and with only 1/6 the weight of glass it also provides impact strength 200 times greater than glass.
Convertible Spaces:
The living room features a folding glass door system fully opening to a flexible front deck. The deck area is framed by a 14′ tall cedar slatted steel frame screen which pivots open by a hand winch mounted on the steel clad wall. This front deck transforms from an enclosed private & intimate outdoor dining or play area to an extroverted deck fully open to the front yard as a large entertainment area under a steel framed cedar slatted canopy.
Rainwater Harvesting System:
The uplighting underneath the front deck provides a subtle peek at the 4,000 gallon water cistern located below which stores rainwater which is filtered and pumped to the laundry, irrigation system, hose-bibs and dual-flush toilets. If the rainwater runs low, the system automatically switches to city water.
Materials, Finishes & Systems:
The use of pure materials such as raw concrete, raw steel, glass, concrete board & bamboo were selected for durability, minimalization of long term environmental impact & honesty of design/function. Finishes are low or no VOC. Materials with recycled content include Paperstone countertops, reclaimed Ipe, Maxipanel, Swisspearl, black bamboo previously growing on-site and engineered lumber. The kitchen features custom cabinetry by the Henrybuilt. The master bath features a freestanding Duravit tub within a double shower wet room. The Pc Residence is heated by in-floor radiant heat powered by a high efficiency 93%+ condensing boiler also used for DHW. The lighting system includes programmable switches, keypads & a master color touchscreen. The NUVO Grand Concerto distributed audio system allows full control of devices such as an Ipod or tuner in 6 listening zones throughout the house. The media room is pre-wired for 6 channel surround sound.
