Dream Home: The Brick Loft by FARM

I’m honestly enamored by this lovely intimate home named The Brick Loft, which is located specifically in Joo Chiat, Singapore. FARM was tasked to complete this dream home who is a design firm that prided themselves to demonstrate cross disciplinary practice in their designs. I definitely think this is an awesome design principle and as you can see the modern home is stunning.

The space which gave rise to The Brick Loft was originally a dark office space. As it turns out, the modern architecture created by FARM was now filled with light. This is because of the open design when FARM implemented the house floor plans and the two louvered windows installed on the rooftop allowing the good ventilation within the space.

I think what makes the place stand out is the custom detailing when FARM installed the brick wall outside the patio as well as the laser cut metal folding doors leading to the great kitchen. It gave the entire space uniqueness and authenticity not present in other interior design. These elements were interconnected around the focal point of design – stunning spiral staircase looking reminiscent of the bricks.

The design elements in the interior design were excellently executed and implemented hence the minimalistic touch without compromising the functionality of the space. This is one of the few of this type of design. I cannot find something going over the extremes like being precious or clean. At the very least, the space is ideal for relaxation like reading books or sipping bloody Mary on a cool, comfortable Sunday morning.

FARM saw the potential of the space just like the client who tasked them to complete the design. There is no evidence of it being just a measly and dark office space and if there is it would only go unnoticed. The very first challenge in this project was bringing in the light into the space in order to change the atmosphere for the entire place.

The interiors are endearingly industrial but it was put in sensitive use. The building materials and the entirety of the layout including its vocabulary and language were reinvented. FARM created custom designs so that the house will follow a unique design. Bricks were revealed by peeling off the old plaster but it was reinvented in such a way that it will demonstrate an inspirational condition.

I was truly amazed how FARM created such warmth in the space when it was once just a dirty, plain and dull looking area.

  1. That staircase looks so cool! There is a lot of neatly designed homes in Singapore, they’re very forward thinking.
