The temperatures have dropped here in New York and are on route to the dead of winter, so now being a better time as any to reminisce in some of the dreamy and warm weather images of architecture in the summertime. Granted it is sure to be just as chilly in France right now, but the Renovation of a Village House by L’Autre Fabrique Architecture in Saint-Hilaire-du-rosier creates quite the mirage.
Located in the village center, a young couple thoughtfully selected the perfect plot to renovate an uninhabited home into their modern dream spot. The project focus was to create a space that would open up to benefit from the sunset and absence of street noise. The rear of the home was completely redesigned with the interior organized around a large atrium flanked by a stair case. The cantilever steps made from brushed steel and left rough create an amazing and almost artistic installation on the wall.
The ground floor living space is completely open, and in addition to the kitchen with a double-height extension that flows from the front of the house to the area. The central island houses the wash area and serves as a bar while the cooking area encompasses deeper storage cabinets. Upstairs, a mezzanine overlooking the central atrium connects with the sleeping area, and houses one spaciously shared bathroom.
