Lake Union Floating Home

This light and airy house is one of eight floating homes (read: really fancy houseboats) planned for a new dock on Seattle’s Lake Union. In an interesting twist on convention, the bedrooms and baths are located on the float level (the “ground” floor in a houseboat), while the kitchen and entertaining spaces are on the second floor. This allowed architects Vandeventer & Carlander to consolidate these public functions into a single room, making the best use of the available space and promoting more flexibility. Abundant windows and two terraces (one off the second floor, and one off the master bedroom) enable a delightful blurring of the boundaries between indoors and out.

  1. Beautiful floating home – this could be a great addition to the more modern homes in Eastlake. I love the new design with the living spaces on the upper floor.
