Whenever you hear the phrase “Dream Home,” I’m sure the last word phrase that may come to your mind is “funeral home”. Nonetheless, Wilkinson Blender 2.0 Architects managed to turn what was once a funeral home, into a fully renovated modern and contemporary single-family residence in Chicago.
The 2005 remodeling was completed in two phases. The first phase included the interior renovation of the funeral home into a residence, and the second phase was an expansion of the home by adding on a 3-story garage, family room and yoga studio.
The interior of the finished home retains some peripheral elements of the traditional funeral home such as the moldings on the sidewalls of the main level. For the most part, the interior design is simple and modern with neutral shades of grey, beige, black and white. The architects also employ an extensive use of natural building materials such as wood and stone throughout the house to enhance the room, including most notably the kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms.

Not sure if its fate that we stumbled upon this around Halloween, but the fact that this interior design is a converted funeral home is a little spooky.
Like the modern bar and stools. The way the bars top wraps around the counter and then up the wall and on the ceiling is pretty slick.
