San Francisco is rich with culture, history, FOOD and fabulous architecture. The Old Bernal House built by Feldman Architecture is situated in the Bernal Heights neighborhood and is the oldest in it’s area….though from the inside, you would never know! Originally built in the 1860’s the house was almost swept clean, until Feldman came in, modernized and polished this little gem that was almost forgotten.
Now the house still has the existing façade, with a contemporary addition that expanded the home with a studio office, garage, bedroom, etc. The interior is modern and contemporary with touches of the original rustic charm and elements of stone, wood, glass and metal. It would have been a shame to lose the history of this incredible house, in a neighborhood rich with culture- architects are finding a way to meld the old with the new and create modern oasis amongst the bustling city like this one. Without losing the integrity of the home, Feldman Architects added a touch of life to this house for the modern family that lives there! Now, as long as they don’t have to parallel park…. Have you ever tried parking in San Francisco!? Eeek.
