Situated in Iceland, this stunning vacation home is the work of Norway-based architect Gudmunder Jonsson. The concept behind the design was to provide different panoramic views from each side of the home and features a striking curved wall feature.
With natural beauty to see all around, the home makes extensive use of glazing to provide unobstructed views of the surrounding area. Look North and you’ll see the mountains, South and the view changes to sea and local islands, look East and the view changes to dramatic glaciers, West and the view switches again to reveal a river and canyon.
The external architecture’s curved wall feature extends to the interior of the home, combining with a curved ceiling to provide contrast and texture to the otherwise rectilinear home. The interior appointments and furnishings follow a minimalist theme and add a chic feel to the home.
The home also makes clever use of horizontal and vertical contrasting wall coverings to accent the transitional living areas.
We think this is one of the most exciting designs we’ve seen for some time, combining modern and stylish architecture and design with extensive use of glazing for breathtaking views and abundant natural light. The use of the curved wall makes this home striking and different and introduces a glacier-like feeling to that side elevation. It is very much a Modern Dream Home and also very much a style we’d like to see more of.
