The House at Mosmon by Rice Daubney is not just a residence, it is a piece of art. The architect not only took an incredible amount of time, but had a clear and creative concept. Though described the concept as “simple” it’s much more than that; “to add a series of strategically located built elements that allow the entire site to be used as the home, thus overcoming the autonomous relationship between house and garden that typifies the existing suburban block.” With no front of back yard, there’s seamless connectivity, to internal and external spaces.
The architect chose to use materials that weren’t the same run-of-the-mill materials used in modern design, using VM zinc, stone and off-form concrete, chosen not only for styles sake but for longevity. The concept of the home is both polished and rough, with natural raw materials and more futuristic designs like that seen on the exterior.
The importance of “flow” throughout the home on the exterior was just as important with the interior- so much so that the house has it’s own built-in furniture and one seriously modern, almost spaceship inspired dining room, with a touch of elegance from the sparkle of the Spanish marble reflecting off the table.
If that doesn’t make for one interesting and cool dinner party then I don’t know what would. The attention to detail throughout the design and home is carefully thought out, making it an innovative piece of work from the inside out.
