This modern architectural home, designed by Juan Carlos Dobalo, faces the Andes Mountains. The horizontally terraced L-shaped plan is set into the ground and structured to fit into the earth, yet visually stand out in the landscape. A lower basement level is partially revealed, emerging above the ground line. The basement also serves as the as a base support for the main level of this great home.
Large windows expose views of the mountainous terrain, and also serve to bring the landscape into the home and make it apart of the home’s interior. On the back end of the residence are even larger windows due to less privacy concerns. There is a large outdoor patio and rectangular swimming pool, in addition to several courtyards that surround the home.
This mountain home’s modern contemporary interior is simple and minimal. The walls continue the exposed grey concrete slab, blocks, and stone vernacular as the outside facades. Some bursts of color are present in the interior such as the bright orange chairs, rug, bowl and flowers in one of the living room areas.
There is also a reddish rug in another living room area and orange chairs at a wooden dining table. Another signal of color includes red walls in each of the bedrooms. The bursts of warm colors and expansive views of nature such as orange and red add warmth to what could be perceived as an otherwise cold home due to the home’s exposed grey concrete and stone.
