It’s day 5, and the final day, of our Vancouver architecture review. All the homes we’ve featured this week are both in Vancouver and designed by Vancouver architects. We hope you’ve enjoyed the distraction from the Winter Olympics. Our final home we are showcasing in this feature is a renovation, rather than a new construction, by architectural firm Brian Hemingway. This home is also of particular interest, as it’s currently on the market and offers a sneak peek into the value of the types of homes we’ve covered this week.
The original house, of this West Vancouver property, was constructed in the 1970’s and required updating. The owners, who were operating on a limited budget, approached Brian Hemingway as they wanted to transform the dwelling into a west coast style home. The property boasted a wonderful location, situated overlooking Thunderbird Marina, all it needed was a touch of magic to have it befitting of the view.
To achieve this, the Hemingway design team had to transform the existing floor plan of the house by opening up the interior space and adding in custom features and character detailing. The result is an exquisite west coast home every bit as breathtaking as the views, with great use of glazing and lighting to make the most of that which mother nature had bestowed upon the location.
We felt this was a truly fine example of an architect achieving standards of design excellence when posed with the challenge of not working from a blank canvas. Coupled with the fact it is currently on the market (we’re too classy to show the price, but if you need or want to know, at least while it’s still available on the market, it’s listed with Lionel Lorence), we decided this property was perfect to end to our Vancouver Architecture Review.
We hope you enjoyed our feature of Vancouver homes this week, please comment and let us know if you’d like to see similar features in the future.
