The Wadia Residence is an amazing duplex in the famed Flatiron Building in Lower Manhattan. Designed by Resolution: 4 Architecture, this modern dream apartment feels more like an airy loft with bright white spaces.
Encompassing approximately 3,000 square feet of highly-coveted Manhattan real estate, this luminous and cheery dwelling was designed for a family, including a young son and daughter. Washed in white, the upper level living room, dining room and kitchen are open to each other and interestingly feature bays of windows along each of the three exterior walls–a rare occurrence in New York City.
Bleached-wood flooring was salvaged and refinished from the existing residence and flows across all spaces. The living room features a set of comfy sofas and pint-sized chairs in mid-century modern form–love this! A tall stack of colorful books adds punch to the otherwise white room.
What’s truly the wondrous design element here, though, is the storage. A low-set, white linear cabinet extends the entire length of the apartment under the window sills cleverly concealing all of the toy bins, books and play things from sight, keeping this family zone streamlined and uncluttered.
A pale wood and white dining set has its own spacious corner, which is at the heart of the L-shaped layout. A connecting kitchen is a mix of minimalist and industrial design, with high-gloss finishes, metal dome lighting and a leaning blackboard with weathered-wood frame announcing the family’s menu.
At the core of this great room is a nautilus-type staircase which swirls down to the bedroom level, landing in a nook hallway fit with a mod chair and books. The wall of smooth white panels are actually storage closets–this is genius organizational design!
The master bedroom is a white canvas popping with a fabulously restored multi-color upholstered chair and artwork bursting with red, turquoise, magenta and yellow. The bath, which is reached down a corridor of glossy storage wardrobes, is awash in sparkling white, glass and chrome. A luxuriously thick glazed slab acts as the floating partition for the walk-in shower.
The nearby children’s rooms are sweet, simple nests, with cobalt accents for the boy, candy-apple for the girl.
A resplendent, modern dream home chock full of style–and storage!–the Wadia Residence radiates with light, love and happiness.
