The “Chic Tip” of the day: Pay attention to how fashion can inspire your home décor.
British design sensation Orla Kiely, perhaps most well known for her pop-meets-earthy-inspired laminated tote bags from 2007, proves that the line between fashion and furniture is a blurry one. For Heal’s department store in the U.K., Kiely translated the adorably sweet retro look of her smartly tailored clothing and handbags into furniture – in the form of armchairs, sofas, and tables. These ‘60s-inspired pieces look like the best elements from your grandparents home, but with the update of modern Boho-chic twists. Case in point: the “Occasional Small Table with Fabric Hanger,” inspired by mid-20th century design, features a piece of that trademark Kiely fabric, with brightly colored petals, for holding newspapers or magazines.
For fall, we are smitten with the “Lust Armchair” in pumpkin for its tapered legs and mushroom-shaped seat. As well, the “Rowan Cupboard” is a charming spin on mid-century cabinets, with a front sliding door painted white and covered with carved petals.

Oh, I adore Orla Kiely’s graphics–especially her variations on the stem pattern she’s been using for years. Although it’s not furniture, I just indulged in a new Orla bag at Ped Shoes, which is currently offering a 20% discount if you use the code orla@ped when checking out.
