When you think ‘harmony’ do you think of a fusion between Japanese and Danish design? Hiromichi Konno thinks you should, and if his Rin chair collection, available via the Fritz Hansen collection, is anything to go by – he’s definitely on to something. A funky fusion of Japanese futurism and modern Danish elegance, this isn’t just a new look, it’s a whole new way to sit. At first glance, it seems your average chair – but this isn’t one to put you to sleep, you can sit awake and alert working for hours. Konno says, “My first idea was to make a beautiful chair that stimulates and awakens emotions. Therefore, I have established something poetical, simple, strong, relaxed and innovative all at the same time. The goal from the beginning was to create the perfect chair.” Has he succeeded? You’ll have to find out for yourself, but to me, it sure seems as if he’s close! The chair is available with or without upholstery and the website provides several different pairing options for desk and side tables – worth a peek.
