Etobic: Modern Furniture Designer Pitonak Crafts His Own Future

Etobic: Furniture Designer Pitonak Crafts His Own Future

I connected recently with Toronto-based furniture designer Martin Pitonak, who is equally at home designing furniture and he is building it. His firm, Etobic Furniture Design, combines the practical elements of furniture with modern styling and Eco-friendly use of materials to deliver a collection that is esthetically pleasing, highly functional and easy on the environment.

In a rich career that has seen him work as a custom carpenter, mill worker, graphic designer and interior designer, Martin finally decided to pull all of this expertise together to found Etobic and begin producing well-constructed, eco-friendly and stylishly functional furniture.

Every designer warms to furniture that looks good but is much more than a decorative piece. Etobic’s Ageo Toddler Bed achieves this through thoughtfully combining the traditional crib design with storage functions that, as a parent, I could have made use of in the recent past. Anyone who has ever changed a toddler in their bed knows the bending and stretching required between furniture items, while keeping a toddler still, to get all that is needed is tantamount to a Pilates workout. Etobic addresses that problem, with generous storage space incorporated into the bed’s design.

The Element dresser / chest of drawers makes for an interesting contemporary piece. I like the futuristic design elements and use of walnut and zebra woods for texture. Again, as with all Etobic furniture, there is emphasis on the practical and functional, with the Element piece providing generous storage space inside, as well as a large area top surface.

Etobic is a great example of how in-house design and craftsmanship can combine to bring interesting and unique furniture to the marketplace. Not one to just sit back and rest on the laurels of the conceptual designs he creates, Martin Pitonak shows his entrepreneurial side by also custom building furniture for clients. We like the spirit of what Etobic is achieving through thoughtful design and encourage you to check them out.
