Christmas Trees- Our Step by Step Guide!

(Picture taken from cb2.com)
Be it your first time buying a tree, or your twentieth, let us help you through picking the tree itself to making it something truly special through decoration.

First things first, you may feel overwhelmed walking into the marketplace – so many trees, where to begin. First, decide what size tree suits your space. If you have high ceilings, be sure to take measurements and make sure the grand tree you select isn’t too big for the space. Smaller room? No sweat, just because a tree is smaller doesn’t mean it lacks charm.

You may not know this, but often you’ll find more than one type of tree being sold. Traditionally you’ll find pines which have softer aromas and needles or spruces, which while having a sharper scent and needle holds needles longer.

Once you’ve brought your tree home and have it up in your stand, be sure to water it! This is often neglected. If you want your tree to maintain its luster, check the water levels and be sure to keep it far from thirsty!

When it comes to decorating, we tend to work with what we have. So look around, what decorations are at your disposal? Lights? Ornaments? If looking at these items gives you a burst of inspiration, run with it! If not, here are a few suggestions.

Rainbow tree: Dazzle your guests and family alike using colorful lights, balls, and even toss some brightly wrapped faux gifts underneath!

Golden tree: Going for that white Christmas look? How about white lights, and lush looking gold and glass ornaments – sure to add warmth to any display.

Santa tree: This one is pretty self-explanatory! Using the man himself as inspiration, let red and white ornaments be your guide.

Gingerbread tree: Using the same lights and ornaments as the Rainbow tree, be sure to make cookie ornaments – your tree will look good enough to eat!

Disco Tree: Are you a little rock and roll? Use it! Use tinsel and flashing lights to accent your one of a kind creation!

You’ll notice that each suggestion here uses lights of some sort of the string variety. But how to get that perfect look with your string lights? Easy. Starting from the base, wrap the lights around each major branch, move from the trunk to the tip and back. While this can be a one person job, it’s also a fun project to enlist a family member in!

Remember, you don’t need to have a trendy tree to make a visual statement. Sometimes the classics are best – things like hollow decorated eggshells, garlands of cranberries or popcorn are not only fun craft activities leading up to decorating but can be quite beautiful as well.
