W delivers when it comes to providing an ambiance for its guests, whether it is for a getaway retreat or for just a night on the town. So when they open new doors across the globe, you always wonder what could possibly be better than the last one. Leave it to AB Concept, and you get one of the most breathtaking and exciting designs in hospitality design. Oh, and did we mention this one is in Bali!
With the big reveal back in late 2010, everyone saw that the boundaries had been pushed yet again by the design team from AB Concept. You could potentially put a shack on the island of Bali, and no one would be disappointed. The surroundings themselves are beautiful enough to hold their own. However, that does present some pressure, to create something that is distinctly unique, and not only compliments nature’s already existing beauty but also provides jetsetters and trend-setters exactly what they are looking for.
Located in the area of Seminyak over 31,000sqm, the beachfront resort includes 232 rooms over four floors, with 79 one, two and three-bedroom villas. Guests are instantly greeted into the reception, by a wall of hand blown glass jars, each with a piece of capiz shell inside. Lounge chairs and day beds are in the open-sided space, while giant day beds are tucked away. Although swathes of sheer linen help to soften the larger areas, much of the furniture is made of sturdy synthetic rattan.
Other design features include silhouettes of traditional motifs thrown onto the walls of rooms; open skylights above the baths; and the sliding door of a circular vestibule of the WOW and Extreme WOW suites. The EWOW, equivalent to the presidential suite, boasts a show kitchen, a spa and two bedrooms. In the three-bedroom villa, also designed architecturally by AB Concept, glass doors in the living room concertina back to allow instant access to the 20-metre private poolside, with open air barbeque facilities.
AB Concept’s founding directors; interior designer Ed Ng and architect Terence Ngan formed the first in 1999. Since then, the studio has developed a vision and a reputation that spans continents and cultural themes and its shelves are well stocked with international awards. By getting to the heart of a client’s vision and take it it to new levels, they bring a perfectly tailored, one-of-a-kind product to the table every time.
