Hotel Design: Hotel Bel-Air’s Renovation by Alexandra Champalimaud and Rockwell Group

The hotel design that has been rated as the world’s best luxury hotel is none other than the secluded, famously exclusive and pastoral Hotel Bel-Air. It recently reopened after completing the $100 million worth renovation increasing further its reputation and value as a hospitality design. This 65-year old boutique hotel has been brought to the 21st century by larger suites, refreshing hillside aerie and modernist look that replaced its previous ornate, floral motifs.

Many worried that the beautiful hotel would lose its intimate charm due to its renovation yet it now seems a misplaced worry as the hotel is more than a showplace ever and one of Los Angeles’ most notable landmark. The design hotel indeed is almost impeccable left on its own despite some ripples that needed to be dealt with. But then, luxury rules and Hotel Bel-Air is just oozing with sophistication and style.

The major addition is the group of 12 new suites provided with uninterrupted canyon views. This group marches up a previously undeveloped hillside in order to provide an overview to the leafy environment of Stone Canyon Road. The hotel interiors complements the architectural design but still preserved the defining qualities and identity of Hotel Bel-Air.

It now houses a total of 103 rooms and suites including the grandiose expanded presidential suite. The renovation of Hotel Bel-Air took two years before completion and it was borne out of the collaboration of Alexandra Champalimaud and Rockwell Group. The hotel interior design is complete with sophistication and elegance which resulted from Champalimaud’s expertise. Through re-imagining the Carlyle and Pierre hotels located in Manhattan, the renovated design of hotel came to a fruitful completion.

As a result, the hotel design has been the enhancement of the breezy and open-air quality of the property while preserving the two most iconic features of the hotel namely – Swans Aphrodite and Eros – which remained in their idyllic pond. In addition to their striking impact, they have been given a new circulation pump that significantly reduces water consumption for up to 1.5 million gallons per year.

The new building which has an area of 12,000 square foot will accommodate the La Prairie spa and the expanded fitness facility. The spa will occupy more than 4,000 square feet including the treatment room exclusive for couples. Other renovation and refurbishing included the classic Oak Bar now enabling business conferences and ultimately the attractive lodgings with different decors and floor plans.
