Las Alcobas, a small luxury hotel in Mexico City, Mexico, officially opened its doors this morning, in the capital’s affluent Polanco district. Having recently scooped the Best Urban Hotel Design award at the 2009 International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show, hosted in New York City, we thought we’d take a closer look to find out what it takes to win a prestigious Interior Design Gold Key award.
Designed by Interior Design duo Yabu Pushelberg, the 7-story, 35-room small hotel combines modern design with warm tones and textures to provide an intimate and home-like atmosphere. The hotel is luxuriously appointed, drawing on the locale for amazing hand-knotted rugs and contemporary modern artwork by Mexican artists.
This type of boutique luxury hotel plans on vying for a share of the growing market in Mexico City, from both the business and tourism demographics, that is seeking a more sophisticated and private stay experience. In particular, we love the spiral staircase, with its reflection from the highly polished floor below.
