Unlike my mountain-climbing brother, when it comes to travel, I tend to be more plebeian in my destinations, sticking to Europe or perhaps a foray into the Middle East. However, the Remota hotel in Chile may have me rethinking my original travel plans. Upon first visiting the website, I was struck by it’s one of a kind appearance. Overlooking the Ultima Esperanza Bay, the hotel evokes Maurice Sendak, or Harold and the Purple Crayon – in short, a child’s vision with dark adult undertones. It is whimsical and fantastic, miles away from the ordinary which more than suits its Patagonia locale. An ideal travel destination, just far enough away from the city, but not too far, close enough to the wilds of Chile to make you feel transported without feeling overwhelmed, Remota is just one more good reason to go wild. A study in luxury and imagination, its appearance will haunt your memory and keep calling you back, much like Chile itself.
