A small, chic property, the San Giorgio Hotel is a new concept by hospitality entrepreneurs Thomas Heyne and Mario Hertel. This modern boutique hotel embodies bohemian beach luxury as it sits perched atop a cove between Paradise and Parage beaches in Mykonos, Greece. Designed by Michael Schickinger in collaboration with Annabell Kutucu, this getaway feels less “hotel” and more like an intimate beach house.
With white-washed walls, the architectural envelope remains loyal to its historic seaside aesthetic. The 33 rooms and two suites, as well as an unenclosed restaurant/bar/lounge and majestic, palm-lined pool, overlook the jeweled blues of the Aegean Sea below.
The overall vibe is decidedly chill, inviting its sophisticated guests to truly relax in a hotel encompassing modern design fused into the many open-air spaces of the beach side structure. Richly colorful patterns and woven textiles emerge, inducing a sensual interplay with the rustic woods and serene whites observed throughout the sun-filled interiors. This eclectic mix of materials is breathtaking!
There are a number of cultural design contributions by way of furnishings which mesh well with some of the more modern materials. At the reception desk, guests are greeted with a trio of suspended chairs which casually cascade from the ceiling. Modular white built-in lounging benches and smooth cement counters pair so well with the various raw woodworks found in tables, stools, shutters and framed mirrors across this intimate modern hotel.
Rooms are bathed in white and skillfully accessorized with both Grecian artifacts and art which portray distinctive craftsmanship. Modern furnishings enhance these spaces which are stunning in their simplicity. Fine, billowy netting encapsulates the plush white beds, bringing forth a rather dreamy ambiance. One of the suites features a private ocean view veranda with bamboo-shaded hammock–what an amazing way to succumb to this understated luxury!
Amenities go the organic route, with a line of natural bath products in every room, as well as a sumptuous, healthy breakfast served in the restaurant. This modern boutique hotel also offers a private chauffeur service, as well as VIP access to a celebrity-studded nightclub nearby (also owned by the hotel’s proprietors.)
