Picture a retro Miami vibe fused with Key West flair and there you have the Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel’s Beach Club by Jeremy Bull of Alexander and Co. Nestled within a parcel of land on the iconic Watson Bay in Sydney, Australia with enticing city and sea views, this coastal destination is lively and welcoming.
Situated directly on the harbour, this 32-room property boasts modern hotel design that is fresh and fun with a relaxed elegance. On the newly-renovated Beach Club site, there is a restaurant, two bars overlooking the water and a white-tiled coffee barista station serving deliciously sinful pastries. The separate Sunset Room is a beachy elegant space reserved for private parties and events.
The main restauarant is the Fish and Chippery, a casual dining and gathering spot boasting a dedicated seafood station. Guests are invited to dine at the alfresco umbrella picnic tables and bar high-tops, as well as at the interior tile-topped tables situated alongside wood-paneled walls near the open kitchen. The kitchen itself is expansive in wood and stainless, with a fabulous vintage refrigerator island.
Aqua, aqua, aqua, the main color choice used throughout is fresh and magnetic, inducing one to sit back, sip a cocktail and watch a sunset. The upper-level Top Deck features a wood-planked bar painted pale turquoise and matching shelving behind it which is neatly arranged with pineapples and coconuts–how fun! The authentic decor consists of chunky driftwood, thick braided ropes and old-fashioned life preserver rings.
The Beach Club bar features painted wooden stools in blue, grey and green underneath a black-and-white striped awning. Nearby, long mint-green park benches provide seating for socializing around the small wood-decked side tables, an area which welcomes behaved canines–even offering them bowls of fresh water. Mid-century modern furnishings thrown into the design mix play hip contrast to the colorful weathered buoys and other rustic nautical accents.
With stunning sunsets, endless water views and breezy palm trees, Watsons Bay Beach Club portrays retro-meets-modern hotel design with a vibrant medley of eras and inspirations.
