Finally! Finally, finally, Liam’s room is finished! Done! Completed! Finito! With many unanticipated challenges to tackle along the way, as was the case with Maya’s room, it took longer than expected. Despite the delays, Liam is very happy with the results and that makes it all worthwhile.
As a result of allowing the little man in on some of the design decisions for his room, I had to make several rounds of edits to the original inspiration board. For example, instead of using Dwell Studio’s car mobile, I had to do a u-turn as Liam wanted, and I mean really, really wanted, a Solar System instead. Scouring online and offline over the course of a few days failed to turn up anything palatable in terms of design, until I came across a great DIY version on Martha Stewart’s website. I had to make some slight changes to Martha’s design, which required my getting hot and heavy with reams of colored card, the sewing machine and several circular cutters from the local arts and crafts store, and, a few days of cutting and sewing later, I am pleased to report it came out beyond my expectations!
I had another large obstacle in terms of the final design as the IKEA fabric I had selected for the curtains, which was one of the cornerstones of the room’s color and design, was out of stock when I came to purchase. Despite holding off, to see if it became available, I was eventually forced to consider alternatives and found this adorable fabric : Peak Hour by Kellie Wulfsohn via an independent supplier on the ETSY.com website. Love you, Etsy!
So, there you have it – a room fit for a boy! Cars, Buses, Planets, Colors, it’s all there, and, judging by the impromptu tour he is forcing onto guests coming into our home, he loves it!
