Alvar Alto has always been one of our favorite designers of the 20th century- and what a beautiful way to interpret a beehive into design! This gorgeous pendant light, the modernist A 331 lamp, was designed in 1954 for University of Jyväskylä in Finland. Made in layers of painted matte white steel with brass accents, it is more commonly known as the “beehive” for obvious reasons. The light is diffused and softened through the brass and it is this effect that makes Aalto so partial to brass in his light designs. It is an exceptional lamp that would look perfect over a dining room table or as an accent in a living room. Get it on Stardust!
