Up&Away is a kite-shaped light ,designed by Outofstock, that uses LEDinGLASS technology as the light source, a family of lights that includes wall-mounted and ceiling-suspended versions. Made for French company SAAZS and presented at the Material Matters exhibition during Milan Design Week 2011, Up And Away was one of nine poetic and hi-tech objects featuring active glass from QUANTUM GLASS™.
Says Outofstock, “The kite also has an incomplete history with electricity. In 1750, Benjamin Franklin proposed an experiment to fly a kite in a storm in order to prove that lightning is electricity. The experiment was never actually conducted. By attempting to humanise a new lighting technology through an image of a kite – an object that is closely connected to our childhood and memories, is perhaps our way of completing the story.” (via)
