There are moments when antique apartment buildings and houses lose their charm – particularly, when the hissing and banging sounds begin. Yes, it’s that time of year when those old, clunky radiators perk up and get to work for the first time in months.
Thanks to advancements in technology there are now well-designed radiators that fit effortlessly into any room, and add aesthetic appeal at the same time.
So you can forget the antiquated heating devices. Replace them with one of the new artful radiators on the design market that come in sleek, thoughtful set-ups that can hang on a wall and out of the way of furniture or as a standalone work of art in any room.
One of our favorite designers of the aesthetically appealing radiator is the Italian design firm Tubes Radiatori. They specialize in creating radiators and heated towel racks out of shaped steel, an optimum heat transfer material that can be molded into a variety of forms and shapes. The TUBES radiators appear as striking minimalist sculptures, in the form of undulating waves at times, at others as musical instruments or as configurations of white latticework across a wall. Our favorite in all of TUBES’ collections has to be the customizable “Milano” which adds a vertical dimension to any room: they are beveled floor-bound pillars that stand up to 7 and ½ feet high. The “Milano” looks most striking in groups of two or three; it’s available for electric or steam heat and in 60 different colors of lacquer.
