“Fireplaces are no longer just about winter warmth. Now they are year-round focal points in out living space” – Cathy Azria
Artist Cathy Azria is a Tunisian sculptor who specializes in creating one of a kind fireplaces for private clients, architects, and decorators. She was trained in London and has since continued to discover ways in which fire interacts with metal.

BD Design’s fireplaces can be made to fit with gas or electric hookups for different flame effects, and can be installed in the home with or without flues or actual chimneys. An integral component of the fireplace designs are metal centerpieces for the fireplace that are beautifully sculpted. Without fire, the centerpieces are a basic sculpture in a fireplace, but when illuminated with flames, the metal art comes to life in a glowing awakening. Each collection has an intriguing name that relates to the design such as Bonfire, Loop and Coil.

The fireplaces and their sculpted accessories can be used both inside and outside. There are three different metal finishes available – natural, black, and anodized (a special zinc to deter rusting). Cathy Azria works with her clients to conceptualize, sketch, and produce her sculpted fireplaces. Each piece is then welded and assembled, with the help of an assistant.
