Artist and Designer Donald Rattner celebrates the launch of his online store, Art-Re-Thought, today with a month long exhibition ’Pop-Up Store’ in the DUMBO section of Brooklyn. It features the first fully-customizable and co-creative modular art collection ‘ModulA.R.T’, with scalable contemporary geometric art modules that can be pieced together in an infinite number of ways.
Unlike most conventional art, modular art offers collectors a truly ‘co-creative’ experience by allowing them to tailor the size, shapes, textures, dimensions and colors used in the assembled piece to their own tastes and space requirements. For those who would leave these decisions to the artist, A.R.T. also offers pre-designed assemblies by the originating artist, which collectors can choose to install as designed or use as a starting point for their own compositions.
Wall A.R.T. is a collection of hanging, customizable, wall art modules that make for excellent feature pieces to highlight any room. Each work is built out of modules designed by an artist to physically join together with other modules. There are two ways you can use this system to create a work of Wall A.R.T. The first is to co-create the piece by devising your own design and then constructing it from modules acquired individually. Or you can collect a grouping conceived by the original artist.
Mural A.R.T. is collection of wallcoverings, comprised of geomotrical modules from the Wall A.R.T. collection. Installed together, the two- and three-dimensional forms expressed in paper and sculpture become fused in a harmonious play of color, texture and shape.
Shelf A.R.T. is a collection that reinforces the romanticism and appeal about of similarly clad volumes with a bookcase or shelving system. It’s what inspired A.R.T. to commission a series of modular artist’s books and to claim the shelf as a viable space for showcasing art.
We love the fact that the A.R.T’s is modular, allowing you to customize it how you please. It puts the artisitic interpretation back into the hands of the owner to create whatever expression best suits their space. We encourage you check out their new site and the exhibition in Brooklyn, which runs through Mid-April.
