How To Make An Accent Walls

One of the fundamental aspects of a well-designed room is some sort of focal point, whether it’s a piece of furniture, a picture window, a grand staircase, or something else. An accent wall, or wall with an eye-catching form or decorative motif, can be an excellent focal point at price points ranging from the economical to the extravagant.

If you have the budget for a bit of extravagance, you might consider one of the many kinds of textured or otherwise visually elaborate wallpapers on the market—graphically interesting papers have been a trend in recent years, so options abound in this area. Also consider mosaic, which can be configured either as texture or as a mural. Cutting niches into the wall itself, or building a niched wall unit to stand against it, is another tactile approach.

A few more affordable options include a simple arrangement of pictures; a bold paint color; a faux finish (think marble or venetian plaster); or wall decals, which you can either buy premade or have custom printed at many copy shops, and which can be applied to furniture as well to give the design depth.
