We thought that while traveling to Milan this week, we might make the first leg of the trip a stop to another country in the Mediterranean neighborhood, Israel, to make our long anticipated excursion to the Design Museum in Holon, just oustide of Tel Aviv, the design of which was conceived by Designer Extraordinaire Ron Arad. The current exhibition, ‘The State of Things’, is running from April 3 through May 15, 2010.

The Ron Arad Design Museum in Holon is, itself, a stunning architectural creation, with massive deep red colored ’ribbons’ of steel flowing around the building and providing an almost ‘late afternoon Mediterranean sun’ like quality against the seemingly ever-blue skies.

Inside, there is a veritable feast of design excellence on display, from all around the world, featuring a mixture of emerging and famous designer’s creations. Staged on two floors, the exhibition at first appeared small in scale but, once you have strolled around the fascinating exhibits, you find that the old adage of quality over quantity wins every time, as we spent several hours there.
Here are our favorites, photographed with our own fair hands – so apologies if occasionally they are not up to professional photographer standards. Our intention is to let you enjoy the exhibits in the manner in which you would see them, you know…. with people buzzing around and imperfect lighting conditions that staged photography can work around – we hope you enjoy them as much as we did!

Dror Benshitrit – Pick Chair, 2004

Andreas Angelidakis – Gold Chair (Wrapped), 2008, not our taste exactly, but definitely eye-catching and thus worth inclusion!

Even the common areas are stylish, with classic contemporary chairs for seating between exhibits.

The curtains also carry the Design Museum’s logo, which is striking against the incoming sunlight.
