Office Design : eBay Workplace Initiative by Valerio Dewalt Train Associates

The collaboration between the Valerio Dewalt Train Associates and Operational Excellence Initiatives for eBay has resulted to a standard office design intended for the new corporate workplace – the eBay Workplace Initiative. The series of pilot projects allowed them to incorporate the work stations with the new modular furniture.

The new office interior design has been created to allow greater flexibility and allow the teams to reconfigure their work spaces by using standard kits of parts. The office interiors are programmed carefully in order to support both the private and project teamwork.

Every component of the workplace from hotel stations, private rooms and alcove chat areas to team project areas and storage solutions have all been revamped in order to complement the beautiful office. This is the reason why the workplace environment gives rise to increase collaborative and communication skills between teams.

In order to arrive at the best office design, the collaborative team toured different technology companies to determine their practices which give rise to the design concept. As a result, the workplace has been reconstructed to accommodate a smaller and informal place where teams can collaborate and communicate better.

The workstations have been designed with lower heights which will allow teams to gain access to natural lighting. This kind of office design will greatly reduce utility bills coming from artificial lighting. The new office interior design is compact which will save on space costs per employee.

The spacing was greatly planned in order to accommodate different office needs. The previous workstation seats were reused but reinforced with other office elements. As a result, it has an average of 30% increase in the density of the workstations.

The departmental rooms such as human resources room have been semi-enclosed which feature the white noise system in order to minimize too much noise on other work stations. There are also the “think” rooms which will support private work and phone conversations.

It definitely looks like a cool office with its “Project Lounges” which has been defined by the Steelcase’s Post and Beam system. It also features the flexible lounge furniture where teams can huddle up as they work on a particular project.

The 6 ft x 7 ft bench-style workstations represent the standard of eBay which is the utilization of renewable and recyclable materials for the entire office design.

The screens installed on primary walkways provide privacy to workers without blocking any view such as the whole floor or even look outside. The beautiful office design indeed supports collaborative teamwork among employees and staffs.
