Modern Furniture : X-Y Deck Chair by Numen / For Use

The typology of a traditional deck-chair is extended with a removable sunshade. The construction of the sunshade is a wooden frame similar to the frame of back legs, resulting in a strong X form, when the sunshade is open. The weight of the wooden cylinder is pulling the fabric of the sunshade to the ground when the user pushes the sunshade frame backwards. Thus any mechanism needed to prevent the sunshade fabric from falling on the user is avoided.

As the fabric stripe of the sunshade and the seat is extended from the front of the seat to the back legs, the construction is released from additional bars or ropes usually needed for the stability of the structure.  Two “pockets” are stitched on the fabric stripe at the level of the headrest and under the seat. Apart from its function as a storage for outdoor accessories (towel, newspaper, swimming suit …) the headrest pocket serves as a pillow when filled up.  The wooden construction is made of Acacia wood treated with natural oils, while the fabric stripe is made of heavy, impregnated cotton textile. Great design from Austrian design studio, Numen / For Use.
