The John and Peter Canteen located at the CarriageWorks in Eveleigh has been completed by BKH. This hospitality design is based on the 1970s domestic spaces situated within a pastoral industrial shell. The CarriageWorks is an arts center and is now home of the stunning, bright and accommodating restaurant. At a glance, the restaurant interiors looked deliberately fresh and white dominates on the surface but with strong black and white contrasting patterns on the cushions and tabletops. The furniture collection utilized for the restaurant is classic mid-20th Century – which is painted glossy white.

One of the requirements for a restaurant is that the dining room should always be comfortable apart from being elegant and glamorous. The John and Peter Canteen is a restaurant design that brings fresh and effortless dining for CarriageWorks. BKH is a firm that offers both comfort and elegance in their designs. The aim was to achieve an ambience that allows glamour to ooze out of every corner but with interiors that are not typical with the current trend in restaurants. This resulted to the rusticity and classic touch on the entire restaurant.

The contrast created in this beautiful restaurant is crisp but not in a clinical way. It gave way to an inviting and alluring white oasis within the pretty stunning architectural setting. The main dining area sits royally on a raised, stage-like area surrounded by the banquette and mirrored above by a box truss. This created a sense of style and most importantly a feeling of intimacy – which is also one of the prerequisites of a restaurant.

The patterns on the cushion offer a touch of fun and silliness. The design is symmetrical at its very basic level which clients must uncover and it becomes the very foundation for the next layers. The main dining area is the focal point of design – where everything around it depends maintaining the relationship and connection so that the entire space of this amazing restaurant has been unified. Not only that customers experience fine dining but will also marvel at the glamour and beauty of the design.
